ORLANDOviols enjoys playing anything and everything from the vastly rich and wonderful repertoire for viol consort. From the lively "In-Nomines" of Christopher Tye (1505?-1572), to the dance sets of Anthony Holborne (1545?-1602) to the colourful fantasies written by Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625). The oevre of subsequent generations can also be heard in ORLANDOviols concerts; the unique pieces of William Lawes (1602-1645), the virtuosic Fantasies of John Jenkins (1592-1678)and the intricate style and rhythms of Lee Santana (1959?-). Voices and viols; our programme is often complimented with voice to include the additional repertoire of Consort Songs and Madrigals.
ORLANDOviols members are regularly involved in performances of the sacred repertoire written for the viol, e.g. the sacred works of Heinrich Schütz, the seven cantatas of Dietrich Buxtehude's "Membra Jesu Nostri", or the Matthew's passion by Johann Sebastiani (Königsberg).
